Bauhinia Health

What’s in a name?

The significance of the Bauhinia tree, which is also known as the Bohemia Tree, Kimberley Bauhinia, Red Bauhinia, Beantree, Joomoo and Jigal Tree, lies not just in its beauty – but in its powers as a bush medicine.

Native to Katherine and the surrounding region, the Bauhinia tree has beautiful flowers and perfect leaves according to the locals we spoke to. The Bauhinia plant species produce slightly fragrant orchid-like blooms, as well as edible nectar and sweet gum.

The Bauhinia is such a versatile plant, with its other uses including: being an excellent source of smokeless firewood, keeping mozzies and flies away, treating headaches, acting as an antiseptic and as a remedy for fever. Aboriginal people have also used the Bauhinia to make nulla-nullas, hook spear heads, coolamons and woomeras, in addition to its history of being a strong medicine plant with healing powers.

With this in mind – we felt that the Bauhinia was a good fit for the name of our Clinic.

Our approach

We don’t just want to be there for you – we want to partner with you. As a person-centred health care service, all our care will be tailored to your needs – not just provided to you. We have brought together a range of independent medical practitioners who all are committed to patient-centred health care for the people and families of Katherine.

The difference

Bauhinia Health will have a number of emergency appointments to cater for people who need to be seen on the day. We understand that there are times when it is essential for you to access health care, and we will do our best to ensure we make this happen!

We have access to a variety of partner health care providers, who utilise our services, to ensure that your needs are met at every step of your health care journey.

Why partner with us?

Because we believe that your health and wellbeing needs are individual to you. That’s why we offer person-centred primary care.

So what is Person-Centred Primary Care?

According to the World Health Organisation, it means care where people, families and communities are respected, informed, engaged, supported and treated with dignity and compassion – so that the health care they receive is tailored to their needs and provided in partnership with them – rather than simply given to them.

At Bauhinia Health, we recognise and acknowledge that our clients may live with their conditions every day, not only when they are visiting our clinic to access health care services. In providing person-centred care, we are focussed and committed to ensuring that our clients get the right care at the right time from the right place by putting people and their needs at the centre of the health care we provide. Even though our medical practitioners are independent, we are all bound by this same ethos.

Expert Healthcare

At Bauhinia Health, we strive to deliver exemplary patient services that make a difference to the daily health and wellbeing of Territorians.

To achieve this, we know that providing accessible, outcomes-based primary health care is crucial.

We are proud to continue to be part of the forward momentum in health care that focusses on, and is centered around the whole-person, or whole-family. This ensures that we are not treating just one aspect of a person but all aspects of an individual’s life – be that personal, family, or community.

We have over 60 years combined experience in the delivery of quality, primary healthcare and hold ourselves accountable for the delivery of excellent patient service standards.

We would be pleased to show you the Bauhinia Health difference, and invite you to make an appointment to experience our expert healthcare services.
